About

When I was preparing to graduate from my Alexander Technique teacher training, I found myself drawn to the words of philosophers, spiritual leaders, artists, storytellers and activists, both alive and from the past, as a means of reflecting upon and integrating all that had transpired in the AT classroom. Journaling on a quote allowed me to step out of my linear story and view myself, the Alexander technique and the world from a fresh perspective, not dissimilar to the effect the Alexander technique has on me.

I created The Pause and Reflect Card Deck: for moments of Inhibition and Direction with the Alexander Technique. It contains 52 quotes that resonated with me and the things I connected with during my AT training.

I found this journaling work so incredibly profound that I have now started The Pause and Reflect Project, where I have committed to reflecting on a quote a week over the course of a year to deepen my connection to and understanding of this incredible work that FM Alexander left for us.

I hear time and time again how the life of an Alexander technique teacher can be lonely when working in isolation, so my wish is to invite you along this journey with me. Whether you are AT curious, a trainee or a seasoned teacher, I have included some journaling prompts and you are invited to reflect on these quotes for yourself and share your connection to them in the comments.
